James Turpen, LPCC
My own life experiences, background and clinical training have led me to an understanding and the ability to help my clients get to the important things that drive distress and through the difficult things, often to some manner of resolution. I believe that everything we do makes sense, we often just do not understand why and what purpose it serves. I access a broad range of techniques and theories to help my client's feel better and get better.
By accessing additional strategies, modalities and techniques in addition to a Cognitive Behavioral approach, I help my client's resolve issues below the cognitive level where they often reside.

Treatment Approach
Virtually every study done historically about effective therapy with positive client outcomes for the client concludes that the most important element is not the therapist’s clinical orientation, knowledge, experience or intervention strategies, rather, what is historically proven most important is the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist. I access a relationship model that integrates a wide variety of evidence based practices and theory, also meeting the client where they are with understanding and unconditional regard… acceptance. I incorporate the theories and practices I know, understand and trust to help the client find their own authentic way out of whatever difficulty or difficulties they are experiencing. Primary to my theoretical orientation are Attachment Theory and both Structural and Internal Family systems, but I look to a number of other theories also that support me in understanding my client’s difficulties and pain and helping them through it to resolution.
